The general ceiling
An external Transport Manager may work for up to four different operators with a combined maximum of 50 vehicles, subject to a lower limit imposed in particular circumstances.
Realistic practical capacity
Hours available, travel, site attendance, other employment, compliance status and the number of operating centres can all reduce what is sensible. Each operator requires genuine, continuous and effective management.
What we request from candidates
Our registration asks for current external operator and vehicle commitments. We review details and supporting evidence before identifying someone as verified or progressing an introduction.
General guidance for Great Britain only, not a definitive decision for your circumstances. Refer to current GOV.UK goods-vehicle operator licensing guidance and Transport Manager guidance. Northern Ireland has a separate regulator and process.
