Establish the applicant and authority

Confirm legal entity, intended licence type, fleet and trailer numbers, proposed operating centre and actual work. The requested authority drives some evidence and financial requirements.

Build the supporting pack

Arrange operating-centre permission and advertisement where required, calculate current financial standing, assemble acceptable evidence, obtain appropriate maintenance arrangements and nominate a Transport Manager where a Standard licence requires one.

Check you can operate compliantly

Set up driver checks, induction, defect reports, maintenance planning, drivers’ hours and tachograph processes where applicable. Compare names, addresses, numbers and dates across the application and supporting documents before submission.

General guidance for Great Britain only, not a definitive decision for your circumstances. Refer to current GOV.UK goods-vehicle operator licensing guidance and Transport Manager guidance. Northern Ireland has a separate regulator and process.
